Our Story

The Robert Carey Recipe​


Bobby Lee Carey, our founder, originated Bobby Lee Foods in Highlands NC.  He and his wife Trish had moved to the Carolinas for retirement.  He found himself cooking for friends and family.  After many requests and repeated encouragement, he started his business.  One of the most popular items and most requested was his Cheddar Cheese Dip.  And Bobby Lee’s "Best Ever" Cheese Dip business was born.

As more and more buyers tried his Cheddar Cheese Dip, he decided to take a sample to Lucy’s Market in Atlanta for a tasting. Owner Kim Wilson was hesitant at first to try it, especially right in front of Bobby Lee, but he was confident. "I know you will love it," he told her. "Just try it."  


And of course, Bobby Lee was right.  Ms. Wilson loved the one-of-a-kind Cheddar Cheese Dip and immediately started stocking it in her market, along with several other "Bobby Lee" goodies.  Bobby Lee grew the business, adding other freshly made, small-batch products, all of which are available at Lucy's Market.  Kimberly Walker, owner of Walker’s Market also tried it and decided that she had to carry it in her store in Alabama.


In September of 2018, Bobby Lee and his wife moved back to their hometown of New Orleans, but he wanted to see his legacy preserved.  After advertising the business for sale, Kimberly Walker made contact interested in continuing the handmade producing of the fabulous Cheddar Cheese Dip and other recipes.  Robert Carey Food Group was formed for that purpose.  Bobby Lee sold the recipes and processes of these unique foods to the Robert Carey Food Group.  Ever since, the Robert Carey Food Group has worked to share the tasty joys of Bobby Lee's recipes, and bring them to tables across the South.

Bobby Lee has continued his role as our inspiration and advisor each day.
